London 2012 #3 Bath, Blenheim, and Bonus Shots!

Today, October 5th we took our last day trip and went to Bath.  It was a cloudy day this morning as we mounted the bus for the 2 1/2 hour drive.  We left just as it started to rain so we lucked out again.  After I took 15 photos my camera died so I am using some of Brian Thesenvitz's photos that he took inside the baths!  I also will post photos of our trip to Blenheim Palace and other events students and I attended the past two weeks.  Enjoy!

BATH:

The Park along the river.  The bridge going over the river is one of two bridges that have stores on it on both sides.  The other bridge is in Florence, Italy.  Unfortunately, we don't have pictures of the bridge from today but you can go to past blogs and see more images of the Baths and the bridge.  The display in the gardens is celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

In the Square outside the Roman Bath is the Bath Abbey, a wonderful church!

BLENHEIM PALACE:

Two weeks ago we went to Blenheim Palace for the day.  It is the Birthplace of  Sir Winston Churchill and residence of the Duke of Marborough.  We had great weather and enjoyed our time there.

The Group in front of the Palace.  We took a tour inside where photos were not allowed.  Below are some of the fountains and gardens behind the Palace.

Waiting for the little train to take us to the Pleasure Gardens which contains a hedge Maze, A Lavender Garden, A Butterfly House, Lawn Games, A Cafe, and much more!

New Oak Sculptures are now on the property.

After I went into the Butterfly House, I met some of the students in the cafe and unknowingly brought a friend with me.  Check out my leg!

Before we got on the train I went back to the butterfly house to bring my friend back(it was on my leg for at least 20 minutes.  After I walked into the house and was about to shake it off my leg, I looked down and it was gone.  I found it outside on the sidewalk.  I guess it made the great escape and was not about to go back inside!!!

THEATRES AND PLAYS:

We went to three plays and theatres that we studied for the Theatre in London Class.  The Donmar Warehouse to see Brian Friel's  Philadelphia Here I Come,  The Royal Court Theatre to see Caryl Churchill's Love and Information, and to Tara Studio for our fringe production of  an adaptation of Moliere's The Miser done Bollywood style.   All were entertaining.  Mixed reviews on Churchill's play.

Tom Stoppard, the playwright, having a smoke in front of the theatre  before the play.

Kanjoos, the Miser at Tara Studio where we will be performing our play, Almost, Maine  October 23 -27.  It was a great opportunity for the students to see the space before we move in on October 15th.

Tara is having a fundraising campaign to get more money to renovate the theatre space and add dressing rooms, a rehearsal space, cafe, outdoor courtyard and change the theatre itself so it can hold double the audience it does now. They will also raise the ceiling and make it a thrust stage.  Here is the model of what the space will look like. Anyone wishing to make a donation may do so by contacting the theatre.

Students have been off seeing other shows.  Tony saw Phantom of the Opera, 39 Steps, and The Lion King.  Tasha, Elyssa, Julie, Taylor and Alex went to see Ghost which is closing soon.  Lydia has seen a lot too.   Lydia, Alex, and Taylor went to see Sweeney Todd  and met Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton after the show.

MUNICH OCTOBERFEST:

We took the weekend of September 28 -30 off from rehearsals so we could get some travelling in.  Tyler, Andrew, and Allie went to Prague, Alex Green, Brian Pipal, Katie, and Charlotte went to Rochester, England with some of the first year ATA's from Rose Bruford and visited a castle, Brian Thesenvitz went to Sheffield to meet up with Danny Wood from SMU who is playing hockey there this year.  I went to Munich and Garmisch, Germany.  My main reason for going was to celebrate my friend Christa Hoffman's 75th Birthday.  What a bash she put on!  That afternoon a group of friends and I attended Octoberfest in Munich.  We usually go to the Hoffbrau House Tent but this year went to the Paulaner tent which we liked a lot better.  It was less rowdy.  Enjoy some pictures of the Fest!

My friend, Paul Dutro,  went with me to Garmisch 38 years ago and stayed!  I hadn't been to the Fest or Germany in 4 years so it was good to see a lot of old friends who flew in for Christa's Party.

Here is a cutie who was sitting behind me at the fest....
