LOAD-IN AT WIMBLEDON, GREENWICH, AND SIX

On Monday we moved into the Wimbledon Studio Theatre to begin our tech week.  We spent Monday building and painting the set, hanging lights, setting up prop tables, and organizing and ironing costumes.  Ryan and I left the flats at 7:15 am to meet Moses whose truck we loaded to bring things from storage to Wimbledon. We met all the students at 10 am.  There was a good chance of rain so we brought all the platforms and lumber into the Studio to start building the set.  Meanwhile Billy and his crew hung lights, Ahnika and her crew ironed costumes and set up the dressing rooms, Nick set up his prop tables, and Corey and his crew built and painted the set!  I had my coffee!   We left at 6 pm, but Jennifer, our Stage Manager, Billy, Ryan, and Arielle stayed until 9 pm and focused and gelled lights and began writing cues.  Students worked hard, and we got a lot done on day 1.

Arielle just happened to wear her Radium Girls T-shirt from a production she was in.  Ironically, Radium Girls is a play written  by D.W. Gregory who wrote Salvation Road.  We did Radium Girls in 2008 at Wimbledon.

Coffee break.  Actually. Anhika wants Amanda's coffee to stain Nick's hat!  Amanda taking her last gulp before she gives it up!

Picasso watch out!

Corey is thrilled that Arielle and Amanda are measuring out the step unit.

Don't ask!

The giant poster hanging outside the Studio Theatre!  We had a great few days in the theatre.  All lighting is done, and tonight we ran the show with costumes.  Looking good. Next blog will have pictures from the show!  We open on Wednesday, October 16 and close on Saturday, October 19th.

Last week we went to see the play, Appropriate, at the Donmar Warehouse.  It was awesome!  Great clutter set for Act One which is right up my alley.

Some of the students went to see Falsettos at The Other Palace, an Andrew Lloyd Webber Theatre.  They enjoyed it.

Last Thursday we went to see the musical, SIX, about the six wives of Henry VIII.  It was so amazing!  Better than I expected!  We had a blast and sat in the second row!

At the end of the show the cast did a mega mix and allowed the audience to take pictures and videos.  I am still trying to figure out how to download onto my blog Nick's video of the mega mix and Amanda's video of our show!  You can go to their facebook pages and see the videos.

Last Thursday, the Global Issues class went to Greenwich.  Student took a boat there.

The went into the Painted Hall!

Some students made their way to the Royal Observatory and the meridian time line.

Julia standing in two time zones!

Some students ventured off to Westminster Abbey.  The lines were extremely long.  They really enjoyed Poets' Corner where a great number of writers, actors, and politicians are buried!

The Art in London Class went to the Tate Britain Museum last week.  This Wednesday they went to the Royal Academy!  Here are some artworks from the Tate.

I found this picture of Nick and I.  This is when I first met him at the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska.  This was in July, and he had already confirmed to come to Saint Mary's.

Here I am serenading the students.  NOT!

THAT'S ALL FOLKS!
